The very first four weeks of an infant's life are known as the neonatal phase. Throughout this phase, the newborn undergoes numerous complex physiologic changes and interacts with a variety of stimuli. You should receive consistent and effective care during this time. A comprehensive physical examination, the administration of preventive medications and vaccines, proper feedings, safe sleep, infant hygiene, and other key areas for the baby's well-being are all part of newborn care. Growth features and behavior are assessed at the moment of birth. In the event of a healthy spontaneous vaginal delivery or a Cesarean section with no complications, the assessment is postponed until one hour after skin-to-skin contact with the mother is established and nursing is commenced if appropriate and requested. A pediatrician or nurse practitioner examines the newborn during the first twenty-four hours of life. Assessing and responding to any resuscitation attempts that the newborn may require at the time of birth is the responsibility of a team with experience with the equipment, training, and resources. The Neonatal Resuscitation Guidelines are useful if resuscitation is required.
